What is a “Qualified Medication Aide”?
A QMA is an individual who has satisfactorily completed the state approved 100-hour qualified medication aide course, passed the state-approved competency evaluation test, and received state certification.
What Does a QMA Do?
A QMA Works Under the Supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, Performing Skills Listed within the Indiana QMA Scope of Practice.
QMAs Follow Physician Orders within the Medication Administration Record, Such as Dispensing and Administering Medications and Applying Treatments to Minor Skin Conditions.
Simulated-Lab is Available for Additional Practice of QMA Skills:
Training Manikins are available to practice QMA skills, such as applying dressings to minor wounds, changing a colostomy bag, and administering medications via different routes, such as G-tube.
(No Additional Cost/Call to Schedule Lab Time/Located in Plainfield, IN).
Insulin Administration Course: Optional for QMA Students who would like to earn their QMA and Insulin Administration certificates. The optional insulin administration course is an additional $350 (Non-Refundable).
How Do I Register for the 100-Hour ISDH QMA Training Program?
The QMA questionnaire is a starting point for future students.

QMA Courses are Non-Refundable as Spots Are Limited.

QMA Course Schedule
6-Week QMA Classes Offered Online and In-person.
40-Clinical Hours are Completed at the Student’s Approved Facility.
All Students must attend 100% of all classes to successfully complete the QMA Training Program. Online classes are live and streamed directly from the classroom. Students must be sitting upright in front of the camera and participating.
In-person classes offered in Plainfield, IN.
All QMA Students Are Required to Purchase the Nursing Drug Handbook.

Orientation Monday, February 17

1:30pm to 4:30pm Online
Books provided during Orientation.
Books are mailed to those who attend orientation online.

QMA Training Program Requirements
Students are responsible for ensuring they meet all requirements prior to registering.
All students must be 18 years of age or older with a High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent.
Must already have a CNA license on the Indiana registry and in good standing.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check (please call if you have questions)

All Requirements Must also be brought with you on Lab-day.

* Copy of State ID
* High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
* Copy of Indiana CNA License (log in to mylicense.in.gov)
* PPD/TB Results (must be dated within 12 months of the first day of class)
* Physical Exam (must be dated within 12 months of the first day of class)
* Entrance Exam (Scroll below to download: Basic Math, Reading, and English skills)
* 1,000 Hr. verification form to be completed by employers (past or current): Students must have worked 1,000 hours as a CNA in the past 24 months prior to starting the QMA Training Program.
* Affiliated Clinical form: signed by your facility, stating they will allow student to complete clinicals within their facility, under the direct supervision of an RN or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The facility must have a long-term care unit or memory care unit and must receive annual state surveys. The facility cannot have current tags preventing students from training within their facility.
